I wonder if Volagi will sue Lapierre just like Spesh sued them?

    • JamesC

If they did, I bet Volagi will be hoping that Lapierre will have to pay more than just a penny in damages.

      • winkybiker

Yes. But it looks a very sweet bike. Just using carbon design makes a lot more sense than Trek’s quasi-complex decoupler.

  • Michele

I understand the need for needles .. but what are those other colourful metal looking things all about.

    Seriously .. a great piece.

One is a set of Torx keys and the other is a set of Allen keys. Both are must haves for a mechanics toolbox.

  • Haridic

Just goes to show that sometimes the most expensive gear isn’t the best gear for you to use. Good reminder for the rest of us when we’re looking at new shoes/saddles/components

  • Ian

    Great photos and write-up.

  • John

Why does Bertie insist on having his handlebars double wrapped? Apart from the terrible aesthetics, there is no advantage given the lack of cobbles.

    • Chris

Silly Bertie. Maybe when he’s been around the block as long as John has, he’ll have a clue about how he likes his bike set up.

    • SeanMcCuen

      cause he’s clueless.

  • Michael and Marijana on tandem

Unior tools, another Slovenian presence in the ProTour peloton, from a small country with a population of only around 2m. Seems they have more participation per capita at the top level of many sports than any other country.

really beautiful photos and report from cyclingtips once again! too bad there isn’t a “like” button here for us to show our appreciation! =)

    • Jaybo

there is! there’s a little “recommend” button just up above the comments :)

      • http://www.cyclingTips.com.au/ Wade Wallace

        Thanks guys!

  • BW

Also looking at the pics seems Tinkoff-Saxo are on a new or slightly different Shiv………..

    • James Fifield

I think it is the same as usual; however, for the XS frame size they drop the top tube behind the head tube. I would imagine to give better standover clearance.

Thanks for the roundup, great post.

  • Jaybo

that Lapierre is a seriously horn piece of kit. i think i’m in love.

  • brucegray

great article. love the bit about the shoes. meet the new boss…same as the old boss!

  • Paolo

Can’t imagine the reason for Contador using mechanical Dura Ace is the weight. Looking at the bike he’ll struggle to keep it above 6.8kg anyway. Contador has probably the same reason Cancellara still uses mechanical DA…

    • alexroseinnes

Tinkoff-Saxo are buying their own groupsets until the FSA wireless electronic groupset is ready. Not using Di2 out of personal preference probably.

    • zurp

I think Nibali said it best in an interview that things can go wrong with electronic groupsets that are out of your control when asked why he rode mechanical for some of the more important mountain stages of the TdF. I love electronic shifting but I would hate to have my race ruined by a dead battery or some kind of electrical error.

      • Cam

Happened to Cadel in the crazy weather at the Giro…

    • Richard Bruton

Does anybody know if Contador has changed to electronic to protect his shoulder? I would imagine it needs less pressure to change.

Personally it is nice to see some top guys using mechanical so I can talk myself out of needing/wanting electronic shifting quicker!

  • Ryan

Great article and great full res/screen filling images…

Truly great cycling journalism that us fans/readers want to see! Chapeau!

    • winkybiker

Yes, Wade and the gang have the best site design and photo hosting by miles (RKP is not bad either). I really don’t know why CN and VN have to suck so much.

  • Hakan Fondo

wow! mechanics ready for hydrolic brakes. arent they bleed syringes?

    • Staffy

Maybe Stans (or similar) for tubs? Allows for slower deflation (less risk of crashing)??? Just a thought.

  • GT

I really do enjoy these tech articles from the races - in fact more tech articles in general would be great.

  • Cliff Nichols

Great piece. For a ‘third tier’ shoe those Spesh Audax’s seem really quite elegant. Glad also to see I’m not a complete dinosaur in still using DA9000!

  • JamesC

Great shots here! Love those Lightweight disc wheels too. Only, what, $3000 per wheel?

  • SeanMcCuen

nice photos, FDJ has a beautiful bike there.
