A new and challenging event in the beautiful rainforests of the Gold Coast Hinterlands is to be held on August 8 this year, Bicycle Network announced today.

In a joint partnership with Bicycle Queensland, Peaks Challenge Gold Coast 2015 is the newest event in the recently expanded Peaks Challenge series that links in with Victoria’s 3 Peaks Challenge.

Starting in Carrara, the 235 kilometre route incorporates the Gold Coast’s toughest and most picturesque cycling climbs, including Mount Tamborine (via Henri Robert Drive), Beechmont, Springbrook, Natural Bridge and Tomewin Mountain in a figure-eight loop.

Up to 2,000 cyclists from across Australia and overseas are expected to take part in the inaugural Gold Coast event, which will challenge participants to complete more than 4,000 vertical metres within a 12 hour deadline.

Bicycle Network’s CEO Craig Richards said that he is excited to launch the latest Peaks Challenge event after months of close collaboration with Bicycle Queensland and strong support from local councils, stakeholders and Queensland Police.

“We’ve worked hard to ensure that the latest addition to the Peaks Challenge series is up to the standard of its close cousin, Peaks Challenge Falls Creek,” Mr Richards said.

“To conquer more than 4,000 vertical metres within a 12-hour deadline will test the physical and mental ability of even the most accomplished amateur cyclists,” Mr Richards added.
