Friday 19 September at 2.30am (AEST) in Grenchen’s velodrome (Switzerland), Jens Voigt will attempt to beat cycling’s iconic hour record set by Ondrej Sosenka at 49.700km in 2005. See it here live.

Can’t wait. Actually I don’t think this will be a very interesting spectacle. Jens going around, and around and around. The cycling equivalent of watching paint dry? Perhaps this will provide some solace / entertainment at 2:30am when I need to do baby nappy changing etc?

Old school playlist choosen by Jens but he is 43 years old. I didn’t know anyone still liked or remembered Air Supply. Funny choice - a slow love balad for the final 6 - 10 mins of the hour record attempt. Will Jens use a power meter do you think? If so you could pretty much ‘know’ what wattage to hit (given knowledge about aerodynamics etc) to beat the record I imagine.

  I think you’ll find that the slow ballad is the penultimate song of the warm down… The final few mins of the hour will (appropriately) be “The final countdown”…
  
  Personally I think his playlist shows he has a sense of humour. “Here comes the pain” at about the 1/2 way mark - classic !

    He’ll already be at least 10km past the 49.7 by that time if his optimistic use of “Summer of 69″ proves prophetic.
