That’s a very beautiful piece on Markel Irizar, well worth the read. I think we sometimes forget that these guys are people too with families just like us…

Love it. Love how they are showing another side to the riders, not just a training camp or a race. The human side of the cyclist and the areas they call home.

My team had a 2 week training camp a the top of Passo Fedaia way back in 1999. It’s a brutal climb. Mostly we chopped laps around the dam at the top for the first week and it snowed up there in the middle of Summer on the first night. A truely amazing part of the world.

Such a beautiful part of the world. I didn’t get to climb this one so will have to cross it off next time. The Marmolada is a beast.

From how I read Tyler Hamilton’s quotes it’s as if he’s come to the realisation that he isn’t any better than Armstrong for doing what he did.

“It was strange, strange. We spoke. Small talk. He laughed at my hair, I laughed at his beard, like all mates would do” - yes mates who were in the thick of it together, systematically doping.

“It was not easy for me to answer direct questions about him, what we went through.” The dilemma, rat out your mate knowing you did the same. Must suck to have a conscience now….

As a race organizer, how is it not mandatory to station a marshal or race official at all train crossings. It should be a requirement. You can’t rely on racers to police themselves, especially at critical times in a race, when half the riders are blown to bits and can’t think straight.
