Orica-GreenEdge Backstage Pass: Tour de France stage 1

Monster crowds cheered the riders as the tackled the 190km journey from Leeds to Harrogate with British Orica-GreenEdge rider Simon Yates meeting the Royal Family before the start. It was a chaotic finish to the stage with Simon Gerrans crashing in the final but luckily not sustaining injuries to prevent a start in stage 2.

There was plenty of colour out on the roads so enjoy all the action inside and out of the team car in another episode of OGE Backstage Pass.

Wow, Gerro what a class act, looking chilled, totally cognant after that crash - kudos

Have to say, I am a bit worried about Gerro. If you watch closely he gets a massive head knock in that crash and his helmet is cactus! There was an article on her recently about concussion in cycling, and from that interview and him staring off into the distance, I am not convinced he doesn’t have a concussion.

  No one seems to care in cycling. Concussion isn’t just when you’re knocked out. The thing is, he probably (hopefully..?) had cognitive tests afterwards, but the riders will get progressively more tired and probably can’t pass those tests even if they’re not concussed.
