€2000 for a pair of shoes though. You’d want to be pretty serious about your racing and/or have some insane level of disposable income to spend that much.

  I’m guessing it’s more of an intentional barrier so that people don’t buy them! (but technically “for sale” to appease the UCI rules)

    Exactly.
    I have a cast of my feet with the orthotic bit that I could send to have a pair made up… but the price, wow the price. I wonder, when he finishes up cycling (not for a long time we all hope) if he’ll go into production and they’ll become a reasonable price.
    
    … and I thought my SIDI’s were expensive!

  The UCI requires any kit used to be available to the public, it’s the same theory with British Cycling’s bikes. They were available via customer order on a well hidden section of BC’s website, at something like $35k per frame.
