What You Missed This Morning photo competition finalists

After a couple weeks of holidays we've recharged our batteries and are thrilled to be back. As most of you know, over Christmas we held our fifth annual #WYMTM Photo Competition and I'm blown away to have received over 7,000 entries. We stopped taking submissions at midnight and it's been a massive effort narrowing these down to the top finalists, but it's been a joy. It's now time for you to vote.

For those of you just joining us, “What You Missed This Morning” started way back in the early days of this website when I simply wanted to gloat about my morning ride. Since then WYMTM has evolved into a popular hashtag on social media and is our annual photo competition that’s held over the Christmas and New Year period.

We have now narrowed down the 7,000 entries into the top 100 ~150 (I couldn't pick only 100!). It was incredibly tough. We had entries from all over the world in some of the most interesting circumstances and places. I hope you had a chance to look at them all, but if not just do a search in instagram or twitter for #WYMTM and you'll see them all there. But this is a photo competition after all, and we had to choose based on the photos' merits (but extra consideration was given for captions that help tell the story or for riding in appalling conditions!)

Now that we have a manageable pool of quality photos, it's time for you to vote on your favourites so that we can pick a readers' choice winner.

Voting is done by clicking the Facebook Likes underneath each photo. You will have until 11:59pm on Thursday January 9 (AEST) to vote for your favourite images. The photos with the most votes will be the winners of our readers' choice awards and announced on the morning of Friday January 10.

In addition to the readers' choice prizes, there will be two prize categories determined by our panel of judges, Kristof Ramon and Jered Gruber: the Exodus Travel category, and the Jaguar How Alive Are You? category. One winner will be selected in each category.

In order to be eligible for the Jaguar category, you must have submitted your photo via Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #howaliveareyou in addition to the #WYMTM hashtag.

Here are the top entries:

Some rules

Please take a look at the rules and T&C's on this page.

If you're wondering how we narrowed down the top 100 photos, it was highly subjective and relied on a combination of composition, caption, and context. Also, we received many outstanding photos which had duplicate compositions (eg. sun shining through the trees with riders in the foreground, bikes leaning up against fence posts with beautiful vistas in the background). What we did was take the best of those and sadly many of them didn't make it through, as good as they were.

Also, photos that we suspected weren't taken with a camera phone (eg. a GoPro was used often) we couldn't pick - although they were sensational. We had to draw the line somewhere.

Good luck and let the voting begin! Voting will close on Thursday January 9 at 11:59pm (AEST) and readers' choice winners will be announced on Friday January 10. The judges awards will be announced on Friday January 10 as well.

There were so many other good ones that I would have loved to have picked, but many we’re using a gopro or other camera. It’s too bad…mane next year I’ll mKe a gopro category— Regards,
