Pre-selections announced for UniSA-Australia team

Three riders have been pre-selected for the UniSA-Australia team ahead of the Santos Tour Down Under in Adelaide from January 19-26.

Caleb Ewan headlines the squad. The 19-year-old had a breakout year in 2013 with the Jayco-AIS World Tour Academy team, picking up seven wins throughout Europe and claiming fourth in the Under 23 UCI Road World Championship road race in Florence.

Joining Caleb will be fellow Jayco-AIS alumni Campbell Flakemore. The Tasmanian spent the bulk of 2013 racing in Europe, recording multiple individual time trial (ITT) victories. The 21-year-old was a strong fourth in the Under 23 ITT at the UCI Road World Championships, behind teammate Damien Howson.

Jack Haig completes the trio. The 20-year-old held off a class field to claim the 2013 Subaru National Road Series. The series win followed a string of recent Mountain Bike successes for the young Victorian. Haig’s ability on both road and dirt earmark him as a potential star in the making.

The remaining four riders will be announced when the full UniSA-Australia squad of seven is revealed on Tuesday January 14, following the MARS Road Nationals in Ballarat.

Scarponi: I don’t want to talk about Ferrari anymore

After serving a three-month ban in late 2012 for his links to Dr. Michele Ferrari, as well as a previous suspension for blood doping under the supervision of Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes, Michele Scarponi will take centre stage in Brescia as the 2014 Astana team presentation. Last year, Scarponi did not even feature in the Lampre-Merida team’s official photo shoot.

Michele Scarponi spoke with Barry Ryan of cyclingnews about his time at Lampre, his relationship with Ferrari, Fuentes, and and what lies ahead.

This is your chance to own a slice of Australian sporting history while raising funds for Ovarian Cancer research.

Only two special edition (100 year logo) jerseys exist signed by all 6 Australian riders;

6in100

One will be raffled (with raffle tickets only $20 each) and the other auctioned …. so one could be yours – buy or bid online at www.6in100.org.

There is only 20 days left to buy tickets or bid, as it all finishes on Australia day (Jan 26th) at the TDU in Adelaide – in a celebration of Australian Cycling at the TDF in 100 years.
