The Three Jerseys of the Apocalypse

By Paul Schwartz on June 11, 2013

With all the coverage of pro/adult/masters racers, people sometimes forget that there is a HUGE youth racing scene, and these kids race hard and fast! With groups of nearly 60 riders in some races, the racing is serious and just as tough and competitive as the adult races. Here's my 13-year-old son in the leader's jersey hammering at nearly 40 km/hr through torrential rain and wind and 15-degree weather, with the Red (#2) and Green (#3) jerseys on his wheel. Little 12-13-14 year old kids racing at 40 km/hr? Check. Sprinting at over 55km/hr? Check. This was taken yesterday at the famous Mardis Cyclistes here in Lachine Quebec. A number of current and past Pro Tour riders have done this crit in the past, including Cadel Evans and Floyd Landis.
