Old Römerstrasse

By Georg Stockmann on May 1, 2013

On May 1st two friends and me made the ride from Munich in Germany to Lake Garda in Italy in one day. Means 400 km with only some cafe- and pizza-breaks. We started soon after midnight in Munich, in the morning at 6:00 we passed Innsbruck in Austria and climbed up on Passo di Brennero on the "Old Römerstrasse", high above the highway in the valley with all the cars and trucks crossing the Alps.

that’s a pretty sweet view for a ride.

I wonder if most of us here in Australia actually REALISE what that ride means?

We’re talking, like, Hannibal leading his elephants over the Alps. Munich is on the flat, north of the Alps, Lake Garda is almost on the flat on the southern base of the Alps. Those blokes rode, in one session, north south across no less than 300km of Alps and high passes and descents and more climbs and more high passes and more descents. It’s outrageous! I love it.
