I guess that the definition of sportive and Gran Fondo used by GCN must exclude Audax rides otherwise they would have included Paris-Brest-Paris and replaced the 3 Peaks with the Alpine Classic.

although the difference is arguably academic, i believe audax rides are officially non-competitive randonneurs, rather than competitive gran fondos

That’s probably it. Even though a few people try hard to finish first in Audax, there’s never a prize and usually no acknowledgement.

Haute Route is awesome it’s by far the toughest sport, I did it last year but crashed out on the descent of the col de Madeleine, broke my collar bone, fractured my right hip, 3. Screws in my hip, metal plate in my collar bone and 8 screws, 6 months of the bike, now riding again and will be racing in April, LEJOG in June, and next year will ride the Haute Route Alps and Pyrenees…
