Brent Bookwalter wins Stage 1 Tour of Qatar

in his sixth year as a pro, Brent Bookwalter (BMC), got his first stage victory in Tour of Qatar and securing the leader's jersey. In the finale of the race, Bookwalter was part of a trio of riders (including Martin Elmiger (IAM Cycling), Gregory Rast (RadioShack-Trek)) to break clear of the chasing peloton and contending with strong head winds to finally take stage victory. During the post-race interviews with Greggor Brown, Bookwalter said “I came here four years a go as a second-year pro. I was blown out of the water, I wasn’t ready for it. To come back a few years later, I knew I was a different rider.” The closest Bookwalter came to a victory as pro was during the individual time trial stage of the 2010 Giro d'Italia which he lost to Bradley Wiggins by two seconds.
