WYMTM Photo Competition Winners

Every Christmas period we hold the annual "What You Missed This Morning" photo competition. It's a great way for everyone to gloat about the magic of their morning rides during the holidays - especially to our Northern Hemisphere neighbours toughing it out in the snow. When I took my photo on a remote headland at dawn, I searched everywhere but gorgeous women were nowhere to be found… Perhaps there needs to be a separate category for glam shots where cycling is secondary? As lovely as the photo was (bike? What bike?), cycling shots of the non-glam variety seem to be at significant numerical disadvantage! Sour grapes aside, excellent competition - my fave was the commuting one…

crikey there is a lot of whingeing on this page.. so i may as well join in - my wife said that my photo was better than all of them and it didn’t even make the finals! so it’s obviously rigged :)

So disappointed by the winning choice, under what criteria did it win?

What was the rationale behind it, I just don’t get it, please help me to understand.

  The criteria was “the photo with the most votes wins”. Wade was generous enough to get some great prizes for his readers, in return he simply wanted to get more eyeballs on his site, which voting competitions are great at doing.

    Thanks Liam. I think the Facebook “Like” mechanism is the best existing mechanism to vote for photos. It only lets people vote once, most people use facebook, and it helps the photos spread to people’s friends. I don’t believe it’s a case of the person with the most friends wins. That said, I think there are a few improvements that can be made which I’ll definitely implement next time.
