It has been announced that the current World Champion, Phillipe Gilbert, will be starting his 2013 season by racing in Tour Down Under next January. Gilbert has raced the Tour Down Under on two previous occasions, 2004 and 2008. In 2004 he won the young rider's classification and in 2008 he took the King of the Mountains jersey.
