Magpie Season

By Tony Reeckman on September 22, 2010

I live in the country and one of my regular rides has plenty of Magpies. This particular bird pays me very close attention for around 500 meteres. Never hits my helmet but comes very close. I wanted to try and capture the action and got this shot in one of my first attempts. I've tried several more times but this is by far the best result. The road is always deserted and I'm very careful when trying something like this.

I got totally owned by a Magpie on Saturday. A few bruises and a split helmet to remember him by :(

That is the definition of commitment to photography – subjecting yourself to a swooping magpie repeatedly to get the right shot. Respect!

You haven’t lived until you’ve been swooped by a seriously deranged Magpie. Great photo
