Northcote CC Winter Track Racing – 14 June 2012

Healthy numbers makes for good competitive racing and the standard in all grades went up another notch on previous weeks.

In D grade, Brunswick CC’s Victor Karafilis had a great duel with Blackburn CC’s John Lewis with the former taking the earlier events and the latter triumphant in the moto pace. Blackburn junior Madison Fitzgerald again held her own in vastly more senior experienced company.

C grade was a mixed bag with good form shown by Northcote CC’s Ryan Cottrell, Bob Shannon (Footscray CC), Russell Nelson (Blackburn CC) and Davern White (Carnegie-Caulfield CC) who shared the honours.

The experienced Chris Halley (Carnegie-Caulfield CC), Jason Desailley (Wangaratta CC) and Craig Borham (MTBA) all displayed strong form, but the win of the night went to Castlemaine CC youngster Stuart McManus, who torched the field by the length of the straight to take the chocolates in the moto pace.

A grade was an all Blackburn CC affair, with strong form shown by Tyler Spurrell and Mitchell Barry all night. An underdone Brent Nelson returned to the fray after a study-induced lay-off, but showed he’d at least retained his kick (along with his leg hair) in the scratch race, while Cameron Parlevliet’s form continues to improve (let’s hope his attacks to too) after a lengthy bout of illness.

Unquestionably the find of the night has to be the 75c packet mix of Aldi cupcakes, laying around on the payout desk, courtesy of the Neiwand family. A big hit with the mothers club ladies in Caroline Springs, it’s THE most plausible reason why the entire clan has retired. However, there’s no question that they’ve also found a home at DISC!

Next week 21 June:
- The 6 Day Event kicks off, with 7 teams vying for madison glory.
- Program otherwise as normal for all other riders (time permitting).
- Juniors, women, beginners and masters very welcome.
