If you’re wondering who is in the team car driver seat beside Matty White, it is Frechman Lionel Marie. He comes from Garmin-Cervélo where he directed the team to its first Tour de France stage victory in 2011 and oversaw the team’s eight-day run in the leader’s jersey. He is one of five Directeur Sportifs at GreenEDGE.
For those of you new to cycling you’ll realise by the team’s excitement that this is no ordinary win. This is Milan-San Remo, or La Primavera (the spring). It’s the first of the Five Monuments. What I love about the Spring Classics is that every single race is as big and important as the Superbowl. Each has its own characteristics suited to specific riders and you don’t get another crack at it until next year. This folks, is racing at it’s best!
