Saturday morning`s A-Grade racers knew they were in for a tough race when International rider Rhys Gillett signed on; the 21 year old Aussie enjoying his last few weeks in Australia before he jets off to Tuscany in Italy to take his place in the U.S. Fracor team. Gillett made a break early in the race and set about building up a good lead with veteran ace Ben O`Leary and young Chris Zucchet; `I`m not much of a sprinter so I thought if I could get away any chance is better than none.` Zucchet was unable to match it with Gillett and O`Leary, the latter two eventually got out to an insurmountable lead, with Adelaide born Gillett taking the sprint from O`Leary and Paul Anders making the best of the bunch for third. Later, Gillett spoke of how he was looking forward to racing in Europe with his new team. `I`m not so much focussed on the one day races; I`ll concentrate on the 10 day tours & hopefully I`ll get to ride the `baby` Giro D`Italia (for under 23`s) and do well in that.` B-Grade`s race proved that age was no barrier for 50 year old Danny Bellis, who jumped the bunch with 4 laps to go, the Werribee resident staying clear of the bunch and taking the win ahead of Paul Kenny and Paul Sheean. C-Grade saw Travis Small take the sprint and land himself in B-Grade and in D-Grade newcomer Glen Detering took the bunch sprint in fine fashion from 2 seasoned veterans in Graeme `Porky` Wilson and ace drummer Barry `Pugsley` Cram.
