The classic spring morning saw solid bunches line up for more fun at West Head. A grade put in a special request for 3 laps with a threatened “Summer Bay vs the South Side Massive” challenge laid down. 66 riders turned out with 42 MWCC members out to show how it is done. Clearly the solid results of the 7 MWCC riders the previous Sunday at Beaumont rd has psyched out some of the other clubs. This time Manly came home with the spoils with wins in all grades and some strongly contested racing in all bunches.

A grade had the pace on from the start and while the challenge was out there the Bike Bugs boys were shown a salutary lesson in sprinting by club champion Jake Kauffman with A grade averaging 39.3kmh for the 3 laps.

Col Carrigan got the jump in a large B grade field that had started to break up on the last long drag on the last leg. Col had some well drilled lead out men with super domestique Ben Elvy providing the leadout.

In C grade the older heads were shown the exuberance of youth with 16 year Daniel Scheiner attacking with around 2k to go. Despite being finally caught at the last turnaround he managed to kick again and take out the win. The father son double act did not eventuate with dad Robbie coming in second to Paul Klemes in D grade.
